Sub-Component 1.2: Incentive Awards to Students, Teachers and Institutions (Total: BDT 8142. 00 lakh equivalent to US$ 11.8 million)
This sub-component focuses on the achievement of students, teachers and institutions by providing additional monetary incentives and thereby reaches and maintains educational goals through a continuous and long-term process.
Student Achievement Awards: The best performing girl and boy student of each of the 7 -10 grades in all the project institutions will receive this award in each academic year based on the result of annual school examination. The grade level amount award is shown below:

The cash award along with a certificate will be distributed through a ceremony at the upazilla level during March/April in each year through arranging an assembly where the senior officials of MOE, Planning Commission, DSHE, SEQAEP Unit, MEW and District administration will remain present. The concerned local branch of Agrani Bank will provide cash directly to students.
SSC Pass Award: All students from the poorer segment of the community selected through the Proxy Means Testing (PMT) who continue schooling with stipend and pass the SSC examination will be awarded Taka 1,500. This award will inspire poor students to appear and pass the SSC and pursue further education. It is expected that this intervention will reduce drop out rate especially; in grade 10 and SSC examination. The cash award along with a certificate will be distributed through a ceremony at the upazilla level during October/ November in each year through arranging an assembly where the senior officials of MOE, Planning Commission, DSHE, SEQAEP Unit, MEW and district administration will remain present. The concerned local branch of Agrani Bank will provide cash directly to students.
Teacher Incentive Awards: This award will be termed as SSC Incentive Award for English Language and Mathematics Teachers. English and Mathematics teachers will be eligible for an annual award of Taka 10,000 for each subject provided that (a) at least 80% of the enrolled students in Grade 10 will have to appear in the SSC examination of whom at least 70% would have to pass SSC having pass marks in English and Mathematics; and (b) the award will be given to those teachers who have taught English or Mathematics in grades 9 and 10 as per class routine. If more than one teacher is engaged in teaching at these levels and subjects, the amount will be disbursed equally among all. The award amount of taka 10,000 will be paid directly to the teachers’ MPO accounts keeping with the Agrani Bank. The expected disbursing time of this award will be November/December each year.
Institutional Incentive Awards: SSC Incentive Award: This annual incentive award is intended to encourage institutions to focus not only on SSC examination results but also on learning achievement at every grade level. Eligible Institutions will be provided Taka 20,000 as award based on year to year improvements in pass rates in the SSC examinations meeting the following criteria (based on number of students appearing in the SSC examination):
Grade Progression Award: An annual award amounting to Taka 75,000 will be given to the respective institutions if they achieve 90% weighted average promotion rate (classes 6 – 10). The money will be sent to schools’ account opened in Agrani Bank. The grade progression data would be carefully monitored and evaluated jointly by MEW and SEQAEP Unit. Moreover, BANBEIS would also verify these data while conducting the annual school census. The recipient schools of this award will utilize the money for enhancing facilities of the respective institutions. Detailed instructions for utilizing the award will be given in the Project Implementation Manual (PIM).
